A48 Pedestrian Crossing at Sedbury Lane

Tidenham Parish Council Planning, Development Control and Highways Committee met on 22nd July, 2020, and further to public feedback have agreed to support the public initiative to improve the safety for those using this crossing. The councillors agreed that the current crossing on the A48 at Sedbury Lane is dangerous with limited sight due to the curve of the A48 and the speed of traffic (max 50mph), this being particularly difficult going from Tutshill to Sedbury.  This coupled with potential increase in pedestrian use from the new housing developments in Tutshill via the newly created footpath from Birch Grove could lead to a future accident.

Councillors agreed to support the public initiative and will be following up with the following actions:

  • Invite Police Inspector to the next Council Meeting to secure their support.
  • Liaise with Police and GCC Highways and encourage a site visit with councillors present to witness the current situation and to discuss possible solutions, for example A48 speed limit reduction, installing a zebra/puffin crossing or option for a footbridge/tunnel.
  • Liaise with GCC Highways if crossing barriers are required to avoid children running out onto the A48.
  • Liaise with Mr J Baldwin to offer Parish Council support for the public initiative to improve crossing.
